As part of the Canva's international design team, our goal was to deliver ready-to-use, professionally designed templates that empower users to create high-impact content effortlessly across print, digital, and social formats. I led a team of designers and oversaw the end-to-end creative process for template production. I was responsible for setting the design direction, reviewing designs for quality and brand alignment, and ensuring smooth collaboration across internal teams. My hands-on involvement included developing high-performing templates, providing feedback and mentorship to the designers, and liaising with other stakeholders to ensure that templates met both user and business needs. I also contributed to refining processes to scale production and maintain consistency across various markets.
One of the key challenges was striking the balance between creativity and functionality while designing for a diverse audience. Templates needed to be aesthetically engaging, flexible across use cases, and adhere to Canva’s accessibility and brand standards. I focused on developing templates that were both visually compelling and user-friendly, regardless of the user’s design experience.
